Not to ruin the joke, but for anyone curious, the actual SQ Millage of Italy is about 3% of the United States alone. (116,631 mi² / 3.797 million mi²) In other words, it's about the size of 1.5 US states.

Obviously, Italy has a more dense population. But Europeans often underestimate how much nothing that's in North America.
