What Does 'Clussy' Mean? The Slang Term Explained
The internet used to be afraid of clowns. They used to be a common phobia. Nowadays though, the flamboyant jesters have become romanticized, spearheaded by the -ussy variant "clussy." The slang term is everywhere during the summer of 2022, mostly due to the thirst surrounding the Ace Attorney clown girl, also known as Geiru Toneido.
Because of her character, this odd (mostly) ironic attraction to clowns became mainstream. The niche obsession didn't feel as far-fetched anymore and, in turn, the colloquial use of clussy mirrored its growth.
Where did clussy come from though? Who was the first internet-pilled goober to coin the term and how is it used in memes today? Let's explain.
Where Did "Clussy" Come From?
The history of "clussy" starts with the other -ussy variants that are all portmanteaus of the word "pussy," as in … well you can probably guess. The first -ussy word that is widely agreed upon to be the first is "bussy," being a mix of the words "boy" and "pussy" that was coined in the 1990s within LGBTQ+ diction.
Of course, "bussy" led to 'thrussy," which led to "thussy," which led to "nussy," and so on and so forth until September 2017 when a Tumblr user saw the movie It and thought Pennywise the Clown was rather enticing.
This user's name was slushi who was asked by an anonymous follower, "Headcanons about pennywise taking your virginity???" Slushi gave an honest response, reading, "I feel that he can change his dick/clussy/etc. So like idk, it'd be very interesting."
Despite slushi's original post having since been deleted, it was screenshotted and reposted to Twitter in the months following, where some claimed, "I hope the tumblr user who created the word clussy to describe pennywise takin their virginity is having a bad day today," among other humorous threats.
"Clussy" Usage In Memes
The term "clussy" had its first spike in use towards the end of 2021 and going into 2022. This was predominantly inspired by perceivably cringy 4chan Greentext Stories and anonymous Reddit posts where users professed their love for clussy. Whether these were satirical professions or completely earnest is still up for debate. Regardless, modern clussy discourse would not be where it is today without them.
None of this aforementioned usage, however, compares to the lengths clussy spread in the wake of Geiru Toneido's viral video. It started when YouTuber and animator Speedoru uploaded the video "Disgraced Attorney" in late June 2022, including the little-known clown girl character from the anime doing a suggestive "suspender snap" motion originally portrayed in a Tumblr GIF.
The YouTube video sent ripples across social media as every hornyposter out there became enthralled with the new niche.
Where Can I Use "Clussy?"
There's never a perfect time or place to say clussy in real life, but online, use it anywhere! Well, as long as you're posting anonymously (or don't worry about such things). It is, ultimately, an NSFW term. However, the majority of its use is satirical in memes and videos. Now that everyone knows Geiru Toneido though, it might be a little hard to tell if you're being earnest or not.
How do you use "Clussy" in a sentence?
- "Pennywise's clussy is forbidden to all."
- "If a Discord mod says clussy in the channel when no one's online, does anybody get aroused?"
- "I don't usually say clussy but when I do, I don't."
