What Does 'Tacoma Wept' Mean? The Viral 'Vaush' Meme Explained
An old viral video from Twitch streamer Vaush has come back into style thanks to his latest brush with controversy. The video, which comes from a 2020 Vaush stream, has been immortalized in memes through the catchphrase "Tacoma wept" and it's only becoming more relevant with Vaush in social media's spotlight. Here's what it means.
What Does 'Tacoma Wept' Mean?
In early April 2020, Vaush hosted a live stream and uploaded the VOD to YouTube, where it's now unlisted. At one point in the stream, Vaush sees a comment left on his X (Twitter) page by the TrueAnon Podcast, in which they teasingly offer him $5,000 if he can get with a woman before January 1st, implying they doubt that he can.
This comment set Vaush off into what he claims is a joke, where he yells that when he got off of the dating app Tinder because of the COVID-19 quarantine, "Tacoma wept." He continued to talk about how easy it was for him to get women, saying his only two skills are "non-monogamy and speaking publicly."
How Is 'Tacoma Wept' Used In Memes?
The clip was taken from the stream and went viral across social media later that year, inspiring memes within Vaush's community using the phrase "Tacoma wept." While many find the video to be cringey, others are sure that Vaush is joking and overreacting on purpose for the sake of comedy. The video has also been reacted to by other streamers, including Destiny.
Regardless, the phrase has become a popular inside joke among Vaush viewers. It recently slipped out to a broader audience after Vaush's latest controversy, which involved accidentally showing an explicit folder on his livestream in February 2024. The H3 Podcast reacted to the video on live, helping spread the meme to their community and beyond, giving it a second wind.
