5,840 Cigarettes is a series of memes, including redraws, based on a viral X / Twitter post in which user @jacobfuknjones shared a selfie standing in front of a bedroom dresser covered in cigarette packs, claiming there are "5,840 cigarettes" in total. The post was made in late July 2024 and inspired redraws over the following days.

Origin

On July 24th, 2024, X^[1] user @jacobfuknjones posted a selfie in which he poses in front of numerous packs of cigarettes stacked on his bedroom dresser, with a cigarette in his mouth, garnering over 116,000 likes and 12,000 reposts in two days (shown below). The post is captioned, "5,840 Cigarettes."

Spread

The post inspired a variety of redraws over the following days, most replacing the subject of the photo with another character. On July 24th, 2024, X^[2] user @drugsandsocks_ posted a redraw referencing Jujutsi Kaisen, garnering over 21,000 likes in two days (shown below, left). On the same day, X^[3] user @commultra quote-reposted the image, writing, "average dad picture before he had you," garnering over 187,000 likes in five days.

On July 25th, X^[4] user @arronmarron posted a version referencing Metal Gear, garnering over 2,100 likes in a day (shown below, right).

Later that day, Instagram^[5] user 6inch reposted a screenshot of @commultra's quote-repost, garnering over 11,000 likes in four days. On July 26th, jacobfuckingjones posted a video edit to his YouTube^[6] channel in which he rapid-fire displays some of the redraws that came out of the post, garnering over 30,000 views in under a day (shown below, left).

On July 29th, 2024, the YouTuber^[7] posted another video based on the meme titled "Fetty Wap – Trap Queen (5,840 Cigarettes Remix)," garnering over 4,800 views in under 24 hours (shown below, right).

On the same day, Jacob Jones made a post to X^[8] consisting of an edited screenshot of the Know Your Meme page for "5,840 cigarettes," duplicating the thumbnail and pasting it on the trending bar several times, writing, "29,200 Cigarettes," garnering over 1,500 likes in under a day (shown below).
