About

Beer Fetcher is a nickname given to children in a series of edgy memes that depict a toxic relationship dynamic between an alcoholic father and his family. These memes describe scenarios that the family is put through, told through the father's perspective about his consumption of beer. The term "beer fetcher" refers to the often infant child whose purpose is to bring his father beer.

Origin

The term "beer fetcher" first appeared in the Urban Dictionary on October 5, 2010, in which the definition is implied to describe someone's wife more accurately.[1] Before it was known as "beer fetcher," the meme itself was first introduced on June 30th, 2021, on iFunny by user whaalin.[2] This meme depicted a Rabbid being thrown around a room violently with the caption "My unbuckled 7 year old son in the back seat when I hit an 18 wheeler at 70 mph because I was trying to grab another beer." This garnered over 23.7k impressions.

On December 29th, 2021, user CrackedBeard posted another meme featuring Peter Griffin throwing Brian Griffin out of a window with the caption "Me trying to get another beer and my 2 year old son is in the way." [3]

Spread

The meme would reemerge and gain popularity in 2023, when the most popular version of the meme would emerge. The earliest known use of the term "beer fetcher" was in a meme by Lord Jitnar and parodied by Timmy Burch on TikTok, who posted a meme featuring a scene from Mega Mind where the prisoners teach Mega Mind to be evil. In the meme, the cards are replaced with a picture of a toy and a picture of a six-pack.[4]

Another popular iteration of this meme involves the father hitting their child after the child delivers them a picture of their family instead of a "map to unlimited beer." The first known examples of this were posted in late January of 2024 by @univerex on TikTok, featuring Bowser hitting Bowser Jr. with a hammer[5] and by Basedlandlord featuring the Giant form Hoodwinked hitting one of his rhinoceros henchmen (shown below).[6]
