Cartoon Characters On Hot Ones or Fictional Characters On Hot Ones refers to a series of memes in which a cartoon or otherwise fictional character is photoshopped sitting across from Hot Ones host Sean Evans. The memes were popularized on Reddit and X / Twitter in August 2024 and inspired by an episode of the show featuring Donald Duck as a guest that was uploaded to YouTube that same month.

Origin

Occasionally, Sean Evans, host of the YouTube talk show and interview series Hot Ones, will interview a fictional or cartoon character, usually to promote a movie. For example, on January 19th, 2019, Evans, portrayed as a LEGO character, interviewed Queen Watevra Wa'Nabi from The LEGO Movie.^[1] On December 12th, 2022, Evans interviewed Puss in Boots to promote the Puss in Boots The Last Wish movie.^[2]

The earliest known meme imagining Evans interviewing a cartoon character was posted to the subreddit /r/hotones^[3] on January 8th, 2024, which depicts Rolf from Ed, Edd n Eddy reacting to a hot wing, garnering around 30 upvotes in seven months.

On February 24th, 2024, Redditor u/LuisMD19 posted a series of photoshops to /r/TheOwlHouse^[4] depicting Sean Evans interviewing several characters from The Owl House, garnering over 1,300 upvotes in six months.

On August 23rd, an episode of Hot Ones was uploaded to YouTube^[5] in which Evans interviews Donald Duck in celebration of the character's 90th birthday, garnering over 2.2 million views in a week.

On August 24th, 2024, X^[6] user @DiscussingFilm posted an image of Sean Evans sitting across the Hot Ones table from a blank chair, writing, "Which fictional character would you want to see on Hot Ones next?" garnering over 20,000 likes and 5,500 reposts in six days.

The post inspired numerous photoshops of Evans interviewing cartoon and fictional characters. For example, that day, X^[7] user @hackermanjoe posted a photoshop of Evans interviewing Charlie from Smiling Friends, garnering over 43,000 likes in six days.

On August 26th, X^[8] user @AllosaurusJP posted a photoshop in which Evans interviews a Spinosaurus, garnering over 7,100 likes in four days. Notably, the Spinosaurus is not fictional, just a dinosaur, however, the representation used for the Spinosaurus seems to be from Jurassic Park 3.

On August 29th, 2024, the official @aceattorneygame X^[9] page posted a photoshop of Miles Edgeworth from the Ace Attorney series sitting across from Evans, garnering over 24,000 likes in a day.
