About
Catgirls And Doggirls Are Not Enemies is a snowclone used to describe two things that go together despite expectations, humorously devolving into describing how the two objects passionately kiss. The snowclone is frequently paired with an image of philosopher Slavoj Zizek.
Origin
On June 20th, 2022, Tumblr user catgirlboobiess[1] posted the first instance of the template. The original post[1] reads, "No, catgirls and doggirls are not enemies, in fact, they are kissing, sloppy style, squishing boobs together, etc."
The post received more than 7,900 notes in two years as of September 30th, 2024.
Spread
Over the following two years, the phrasal template soon saw use across several sites, most notably Tumblr,[2][3][4] Reddit,[5][6][7] and Twitter.[8]
The most widely used form of the snowclone pairs an edited screenshot of the original post with an image of Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Žižek taken during a lecture in 2008. This more exploitable form of the post led to a wide variety of edits exchanging doggirls and catgirls for other things. For example, on October 25th, 2022, Twitter user @fencepostmagpie[9] posted an example that gained over 60 likes in two years.
