Christ You Are Extremely Fucking Selfish, Die is a line associated with a piece of Puella Magi Madoka Magica fan art in which Kyubey berates Madoka Kaname. The piece was the inspiration for numerous redraws, featuring wholesome fictional characters from various franchises.

Origin

On December 28th, 2020, Twitter user JAYnder posted a three-panel comic^[1] featuring Puella Magi Madoka Magica characters Madoka Kaname and Kyubey, contrasting the childish innocence and sweetness of the former with the cynicism and harshness of the latter. In the piece, Madoka Kaname says she wishes for people to be happy, while Kyubey tells her she's "extremely fucking selfish." The piece gained more than 17,900 retweets and more than 87,800 likes in 3 years.

Redraws of the comic began growing popular in mid-2022, as fan artists inserted into the comic fictional characters, generally wholesome children and teenagers who were exposed to unfair or traumatic events. For example, on June 24th, 2022, Twitter user @blackwoodsis^[4] posted a variation using Sonic the Hedgehog characters, gaining over 2,500 retweets and 22,000 likes in a year (shown below, left). On July 20th, Tumblr user aerismonia^[5] posted a Pokémon variation that gained over 8,700 notes in one year (shown below, right).

On Tumblr, popular redraws include an August 3rd post^[2] by ophanim-vesper that gained more than 12,700 reblogs and 34,600 likes in a month with their take on Spirited Away. On July 3rd, 2023, Sparebutton posted a Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse version,^[3] which gained more than 126,300 notes in two months (shown below, right).
