Eeby Deeby refers to an impersonation of robot speak and has since been used in a series of edited comics whose speech bubbles have been edited to have one character say "Your dick cold" and the other say "Eeby Deeby." Often, the two characters will be situated such that it can look like they're having sex. The trend started with an edit of a still from a Buck Rogers comic strip of the robot character Twiki before it was adapted to fit multiple images online.

Origin

In 1979, a television adaptation of the comic strip Buck Rogers, entitled Buck Roger in the 25th Century^[6] began a three-season run. In the series, the character Twiki (portrayed by Felix Silla) frequently says the phrase "eeby deeby." On November 27th, 2012, YouTuber ltariel posted a video remix of Twiki saying the phrase, causing the robot to say the phrase repeatedly. The post received more than 145,000 views in less than 10 years (shown below).^[7]

The earliest known post of the edited comic strip appeared on October 18th, 2019 in an Imgur^[1] comment by MetaPathos (shown below). However, this may not be the original post of the edit, as Me.me^[2] scraped the comic on September 18th, 2019, though they do not link their source.

Spread

Fans of user MetaPathos and his "ICM" (Interweb Chex Mix) series of photo dumps enjoyed the joke and began creating other comics featuring the dialogue. On February 13th, user AdeptusCannibus^[5] posted a compilation of images edited to feature the "Eeby Deeby" dialogue, many of which were reposts from user vazquezdaniel. (examples shown below).

On March 13th, 2020, MetaPathos reposted the original "Eeby Deeby" image^[3] and commenters responded with multiple variations (examples shown below).

Over the following months, Imgur users continued to create variations on "Eeby Deeby," including user smax410 who on May 2nd used a still from Metropolis in the joke^[4] (shown below).
