About
Elon Musk Jumping refers to a photograph of businessman and investor Elon Musk jumping up into the air while wearing a black "Make America Great Again" (MAGA) hat during an appearance at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania during the 2024 Presidential Election. The tech entrepreneur was captured on camera jumping with his hands up in the air and an awkward expression on his face during a rally in support of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in early October 2024. This marks the second time that a photo of Musk jumping has been turned into a meme.
Origin
On October 5th, 2024, former President Donald Trump returned to Butler, Pennsylvania, the site of the first attempt on his life earlier that year, to hold a rally one month ahead of the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election. Trump invited tech entrepreneur Elon Musk to speak at the rally, with Musk jumping up and down repeatedly as he walked on stage that day (seen below).[1]
New York Times journalist Doug Mills reposted a photo of Musk jumping, captured by photographer Jim Watson,[2] on his X[3] account on October 5th. In the post, Mills wrote, "@realDonaldTrump introduces Elon Musk during a rally in Butler, Pa." The post gathered over 9,000 likes in a day as it went viral online.
