Overview

Alinity Cat Abuse refers to several instances of Twitch streamer Alinity mistreating her pet cat Milo, most recent of which involved her throwing the cat over her head during a live broadcast. In July 2019, the recordings of Alinity abusing the animal became viral, with the online community condemning the streamer and Alinity becoming a subject for investigation by the Saskatoon Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Background

On June 18th, 2019, during an Apex Legends live broadcast, Twitch streamer Alinity Divine picked up and threw her cat Milo over her head. On the same day, Twitter user @turkyfucker posted the video,[1] gaining over 23,000 retweets and 79,600 likes in five days. A post of the video to /r/LivestreamFail subreddit gained over 9,800 upvotes within the same period.[2][3]


Notable Developments

In the following hours, more videos showing Alinity mistreating her pet cats were posted online, including videos of her putting stickers over the cat's face made in June 2019[4][5] and a video of her allowing it to lick vodka off her lips made in 2018 (shown below).[6]


Online Reactions

On July 19th, 2019, YouTuber Keemstar tweeted the clip of Alinity throwing her cat, calling for Twitch to ban the streamer.[7] The tweet gained over 17,000 retweets and 93,000 likes in four days. Later on the same day, Keemstar reviewed the controversy in his video which gained over 1.3 million views (shown below).[8]

On the same day, PETA called for the immediate ban of Alinity from Twitch (shown below).[9] On the same day, the Saskatoon Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) launched an investigation into the animal abuse allegations.[10]

On July 21st, 2019, Change.org user Cai Samuels started a petition for Twitch to ban Alinity from streaming on the platform. The petition gained over 16,000 votes within 20 hours.[11] Meanwhile, Ebaum's World[16] published an article about the incident titled "Twitch Streamer Alinity Is In Hot Water For Abusing Her Cat On Stream."

Alinity's Apology

On July 19th, 2019, Alinity posted a series of tweets in which she apologized for "lapses in judgment" and assuring that her pet animals are"well-loved and live in a warm and caring home" (screenshots shown below).[12][13][14]

Now THIS is someone I would not question the internet over making mocking memes of all the time. Every time we hear something new of her, she is being some kind of bitch in some regard and getting away with it thanks to Twitch's bias for e-thots.
