Evil X Be Like refers to an image macro trend that uses the catchphrase and phrasal template "Evil X Be Like." Meme creators primarily insert a well-known musician or other pop culture icon into the template, then, they change the bottom caption of the image macro to a well-known lyric or quote from that pop culture icon, making it "evil." The trend started on Facebook in September 2021 but saw the most amount of usage across iFunny going into October 2021.
Origin
On September 12th, 2021, Facebook[1] page, Pains of Hell Wellness Clinic, posted an image using Impact font top and bottom captions reading, "Evil MLK Be Like / I Have A Nightmare." The meme (shown below) received roughly 3,700 reactions and 1,900 shares over the course of one month.
Spread
On September 14th, 2021, iFunny[2] account @TriggerWarning reposted the MLK version of the meme, spreading it to additional platforms online. The post was featured on iFunny and received roughly 19,500 smiles over the course of 27 days.
On September 18th, Redditor[8] JackieMations uploaded a new version of the meme (shown below) with a caption reading "Evil Frank Sinatra Be Like / That's Death" to the subreddit /r/OkBuddyRetard. The meme received 181 likes over the course of 23 days. On September 19th, iFunny[3] account @okbuddyretardlol reposted jacobsonic123's meme. The meme was featured and received roughly 11,300 smiles over the course of 22 days.
More iFunny accounts began to follow the meme format in the days following. On September 21st, iFunny[4] account @HannibalOfCarthagesGhost posted a Blue Oyster Cult version of the meme (shown below) which received 669 likes over the course of 20 days.
On October 9th, 2021, iFunny[5] account @Sylvan posted a version of the meme with text reading, "Evil Beach Boys Be Like / Wouldn't It Be Horrible." The meme (shown below) was featured and received roughly 13,900 smiles over the course of two days.
The "Beach Boys" version of the meme was reposted to Twitter on October 9th, 2021, by Twitter[6] account @bigottimerush. Their tweet received roughly 99,800 likes over the course of two days. It was also reposted to Instagram on October 9th, 2021, by Instagram[7] account @grapejuiceboys, who received roughly 75,100 likes over the course of two days.
Overall, the meme received the most amount of remixes on iFunny after October 9th, with users inserting "evil" versions of Kanye West, Bladee and American Dad, among other pop culture references.
