About
Gomen Amanai is the opening line of an internal monologue said by the Jujutsu Kaisen character Satoru Gojo during a battle against the character Toji Fushiguro. The monologue, accompanied by piano music, during which Gojo is levitating in the air and apologizes to the character Riko Amanai for not being upset about her death, has been used as a theme for various memes since April 2024 in which people or objects are lying or suspended in the air in a state resembling Gojo's pose in the anime scene.
Origin
On July 27th, 2023, the episode "Hidden Inventory, Part 4" of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime series, based on a manga of the same name, premiered.[1] During the scene, the second part of a battle between the characters Toji Fushiguro and Satoru Gojo occurs.
During the battle, Gojo levitates horizontally in the air, dodging one of Toji's attacks by tilting his head backward. As he dodges the attack, an internal monologue in which Gojo apologizes to the recently killed character Riko Amanai for not being upset about her death occurs (scene shown below, 3:09 mark). The monologue is notably accompanied by piano music.
Sorry, Amonai. I'm not even angry over you now. I bear no grudge against anyone. It's just that the world feels so, so wonderful right now.
