Gojo has been a fan-favorite character since the series's inception, and his sudden death was revealed in leaked pages from Chapter 236 in September 2023 after a cliffhanger fight sequence between him and Sukuna leaked online. Fans of the show reacted to the news by expressing sadness and anguish online, with many noting that the character was also approaching a "sealed off" arc in the anime, meaning fans were losing new material on both the manga and anime front.

Background

Chapter 235 of the manga series Jujutsu Kaisen saw the much-anticipated battle between Gojo and Sukuna, the King of Curses, unfold. The chapter ended with Gojo sacrificing Shinjuku to defeat Sukuna and seemingly win the battle but leaked Chapter 236 panels revealed that Gojo had an untimely off-comic-book-panel death.^[1]

Gojo's in-manga death coincides with the JJK anime "sealing off" Gojo's character, an arc already explored in the manga. This means that JJK fans will not see Gojo in new manga or anime releases.

JJK fans expressed their disappointment about Gojo's death, with some going so far as to issue threats to mangaka Gege Akutami for his storytelling choices. Satoru Gojo's Memorial In Chile

On September 21st, 2023, Satoru Gojo's fans raised an altar filled with messages and fan art of the character in the Universidad de Chile metro station in Santiago, Chile. TikToker^[6] @rgabriela27.1 posted a video on September 24th showing the altar (shown below, left), which amassed over 1 million plays and 246,000 likes in a day. On September 23rd, TIkToker^[7] @whoisdanny_ also posted a video showing the memorial (shown below, right), garnering more than 1 million plays and 183,000 likes in two days.

A few days after the memorial became a viral event, the metro station security guards were seen taking the notes out of the billboard. TikTok^[8] news page @meganoticias.cl posted a video in September 24th showing the removal of Gojo's memorial (shown below) amassing roughly 187,000 plays and 18,000 likes in a day.
