The Gorilla Mask Video refers to a viral video on TikTok posted by TikToker john.mills894 in July 2024 in which a man wearing a gorilla mask purposefully drops his phone to flash the viewer when he picks it up. The text on the video reads, "Gorilla Mask? Yay or Nay?" The TikTok was reposted to Twitter / X by user nathan20233379 before it was deleted on TikTok. Internet users reacted to the shock video as it spread online, similar to precursor "secret flash" videos like the New Nails and My Kitty TikTok.

Origin

Sometime on or before July 29th, 2024, TikToker @john.mills894 posted a video (since deleted) in which a man, presumably himself, is wearing a gorilla mask with text reading, "Gorilla Mask? Yay or Nay?" The man then drops the phone that's recording and when he picks it up, it's revealed that he's not wearing any pants and he flashes the viewer while picking up the phone. The video was likely deleted because it violated TikTok's community guidelines on nudity.

The first known repost of the video was shared by X^[1] user @nathan20233379 on July 29th, gaining over 20,000 views and 470 likes in two days (censored screenshots shown below).

For instance, on July 30th, 2024, TikToker^[2] @hi_five3 posted a recording of the video from its X repost that cut off before the flash, gaining over 1.4 million plays and 4,400 likes in a day (shown below, left).

Also on July 30th, TikToker^[3] @noahglenncarter posted a video that explained the Gorilla Mask Video, receiving over 2.4 million plays and 192,300 likes in a day (shown below, right).
