I Stole That One, But Not Because I'm Black! is a line from the 2012 movie Men In Black 3, in which Agent J, played by Will Smith, berates two police officers for their racial profiling, before conceding to the coincidental circumstances. This line has been used in memes in a similar fashion, for expressing personal viewpoints or experiences that would otherwise look bigoted or stereotypical.

Origin

In the original scene, after tricking two policemen into erasing their own memory, Agent J takes the occasion to lecture them for assuming he stole his car on the ground that he's a black man, before stating that he unrelatedly did steal that car. The full car arrest scene was first uploaded on YouTube on March 14th, 2013 (see below).

And just because you see a black man driving in a nice car, does not mean it's stolen! … I stole that one, but… not 'cause I'm black!
