About

iDubbbz is the YouTube handle of Ian Carter, an American vlogger and social media critic best known for his Kickstarter Crap and Content Cop web series. In addition to producing original video content, iDubbbz has made guest appearances in collaboration with other YouTube personalities, most notably Filthy Frank and Maxmoefoe. In 2021, iDubbbz made a foray into the influencer boxing world and founded the Creator Clash event, featuring numerous fights between creators. In 2023, various controversies went viral online surrounding iDubbbz, particularly involving the Creator Clash 2 event.

Online History

On August 30th, 2012, iDubbbz posted the first video to the iDubbbzTV YouTube^[1] channel, in which he is shown playing the game Overgrowth. At the beginning of his YouTube career, iDubbbz built his audience base through a series of Let's Play-style walkthroughs and video game commentaries, before shifting his focus to more in-depth commentaries on social media trends and analysis of YouTube's vlogging subculture with the launch of Kickstarter Crap in March 2013, followed by the premiere of Content Cop in December 2015. Many of his early videos have since been removed from the channel. As of May 2023, iDubbbzTV has more than 7.5 million subscribers on YouTube.^{[2][3][4][5][6][7]}

Kickstarter Crap

Kickstarter Crap is a web series in which iDubbbz mocks and criticizes a variety of poorly conceived campaigns and projects found on the online crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. He later launched the spin-off series Indiegogo Excrement, investigating similar crowdfunding campaigns on Indiegogo.

Bad Unboxing

Bad Unboxing is a web series in which iDubbbz parodies the genre of unboxing videos by opening and reviewing a variety of monthly subscription-based products, as well as miscellaneous gifts and mail sent from his fans. The series premiered on August 6th, 2014, with the pilot episode on a box of sample toothbrushes (shown below).

Content Cop

Content Cop is a satirical web series in which iDubbbz offers his criticism and honest reviews of popular channels and content creators on YouTube. Each episode of Content Cop opens with a comedy sketch of iDubbbz dressed in a police uniform chasing after and bringing down a suspect, before cutting to iDubbbz's production studio where he rants about the YouTube content creator in question at length. Since its premiere on December 13th, 2015, which featured a review of YouTube reaction vlogger Jinx (shown below), iDubbbz has released a total of ten Content Cop episodes on several celebrity vloggers, including Leafy, Keemstar and The Fine Bros, as well as popular subgenres of original video content on YouTube, such as hidden camera pranking, unboxing and other consumer product reviewers. As of February 2017, Content Cop has accrued nearly 64 million views in aggregate.

iDubbbz released a total of 11 Content Cop videos between December 2015 and October 2017, the last video on creator RiceGum, becoming one of his most popular series' and sparking several controversies, including with creators Tana Mongeau and LeafyIsHere (see "controversies" section).

Collaborations (H3h3 Productions, Filthy Frank, MaxMoeFoe, Anything4Views)

Some of iDubbbz's most popular videos are collaborations with creators MaxMoeFoe, Anything4Views and Filthy Frank. Between April 2016 and June 2017, numerous collaborations between the creators were posted to various channels, including MaxMoeFoe's and Filthy Frank's channels. These included videos like Deadly Twister and the trilogy of "cake" videos, Hair Cake, Vomit Cake and Human Cake, where they group bake disgusting cakes and try to eat them. The gang also appeared in several behind-the-scenes and vlogs together.

On December 9th, 2016, iDubbbz was featured in a collaboration video with h3h3productions Ethan Klein on the h3h3productions YouTube^[11] channel, where they poked fun at Logan Paul for a video where he puts on glasses that "cure colorblindness," garnering over 22 million views in seven years (shown below).

Documentaries

On July 31st, 2019, iDubbbz posted his first documentary video to YouTube, titled Full Force. The documentary follows YouTuber AirSoftFatty and garnered over 22 million views in four years (shown below, left). On July 20th, 2020, iDubbbz posted his second documentary to YouTube, Ice Cream Man, this time following YouTuber Daxflame, garnering over 7.2 million views in three years (shown below, right).

Anisa Jomhas OnlyFans

In March 2020, iDubbbz's wife Anisa Jomha launched her OnlyFans account, claiming iDubbbz was "very supportive" of it in a tweet. The decision resulted in criticism not only aimed at Jomha but at iDubbbz, with many calling him a cuck and a simp. Others also began to hypothesize that Jomha was changing iDubbbz and "pacifying him" for the worse. iDubbbz posted a video responding to the backlash on March 28th, 2020, defending Jomha and sex workers in general (shown below).

Getting Away With It & iDubbbz vs. Sam Hyde

On January 8th, 2022, the HydeWars official YouTube^[12] channel posted a video titled "The Truth About iDubbbz" that totaled close to two hours in length, gaining over one million views in six days (shown below). The video consists of footage of iDubbbz shooting a documentary on Sam Hyde, where Hyde messes with iDubbbz the whole time by acting and creating an overwhelmingly uncomfortable and at times hostile environment for him (shown below). In the video, Hyde hypothesizes that iDubbbz wasn't going to release the documentary because he messed with him.

iDubbbz's cut of the documentary Getting Away With It on February 2nd, 2022, following controversial creator Sam Hyde, garnering over 5.6 million views in a year (shown below). The release of the documentary and Hyde's framing of it caused some backlash towards iDubbbz, with many thinking iDubbbz wanted to "gotcha" Hyde.

Creator Clash

On October 29th, 2021, YouTuber^[13] iDubbbz posted a video titled "You're hiding from me…" where he reveals that RiceGum who he has had a public feud with for years, was set to box him in an event that iDubbbz was setting up after talks. Originally, RiceGum wanted Keemstar to set up the event but iDubbbz refused to let that happen. In the video, iDubbbz explains that RiceGum wanted a million dollars to fight but iDubbbz refused, saying he wants the money from the event to go to charity. RiceGum backed out of the fight, with iDubbbz's video acting as a last effort to convince him to fight, gaining over 3.4 million views in six months (shown below). He also offered Keemstar the fight, who refused. He ends the video by asking viewers who they'd want to see him fight instead of RiceGum.

On March 25th, 2022, iDubbbz posted a video to YouTube^[14] officially announcing the event and his opponent, an influencer named Dr. Mike. In the video he announces the date and location of the fight, taking place in Tampa, Florida, and links to the fight's website, thecreatorclash.com.^[15] Jomha was initially set to fight but had to back out due to a concussion. On May 14th, Creator Clash took place, featuring a nine-fight card. iDubbbz ended up losing his fight against Dr. Mike (shown below).

Creator Clash 2

On April 15th, 2023, Creator Clash 2 took place. The event featured 12 fights, including iDubbbz vs. Alex Wasabi. iDubbbz lost his fight to Wassabi.

Removal of Froggy Fresh from Creator Clash 2

Leading up to Creator Clash 2, Froggy Fresh, who was meant to fight in the competition against Chris Ray Gun, was removed from the event. This resulted in significant backlash against iDubbbz and Jomha, the co-founder of the event, increasing the spread of the idea that Jomha had "ruined" iDubbbz by changing his views. People also criticized him for suggesting they could take legal action against Froggy Fresh.

Following the fight, iDubbbz posted a video explaining that Froggy Fresh was removed for training with and posting content with Sam Hyde leading up to the fight, while also insulting iDubbbz's wife numerous times online, something Hyde was also doing (shown below).

2023 Apology Video, Unlisting Content Cop

On May 18th, 2023, iDubbbz posted a video apologizing for his past "hurtful" content to YouTube,^[17] specifically apologizing for saying and normalizing the n-word in his content, saying "it's either all okay or none of it is okay" in relation to saying the N-word and specifically apologizing to Tana Mongeau for the Content Cop he made about her. In the video, he announced that all his Content Cop videos were unlisted (but still available through the Content Cop playlist).^[16] The video gained over 1.2 million views in under 24 hours (shown below).

The video received mixed reactions from viewers, with some, including members of the YouTube commentary community like Keemstar, criticizing iDubbbz for changing and going woke with his content. Others supported iDubbbz for maturing in his viewpoints and owning up to his mistakes (examples shown below).

On May 18th, Tana Mongeau tweeted,^[18] "podcast as soon as possible. crazy times. wonder if he’d ever come on. I have a lot to say, definitely never thought this would happen" in reference to iDubbbz's apology. iDubbbz responded saying he would go on her podcast to talk about it (shown below).

Controversies

Feud with Leafy

On September 12th, 2016, iDubbbz released an episode of Content Cop in which he roasts the popular YouTube vlogger Leafy for having a "weak chin" complex, speculating that Leafy seems to be trying to hide the lower end of his face when posing for photographs (shown below). Within 48 hours, the video gathered upwards of 4.9 million views and 120,000 comments. In the following days, Leafy began to lose his subscribers en mass at a rapid rate, presumably as a result of iDubbbz' Content Cop episode. Eventually, iDubbbz tweeted a message chastising his subscribers for unsubscribing from Leafy's channel using the hashtag #WeLoveYouCalvin.

Feud with Tana Mongeau

On December 10th, 2016, YouTube^[8] vlogger Tana Mongeau posted a series of tweets slamming iDubbbz for using the "n-word" and "retard" in his videos. (shown below).

While iDubbbz didn't publicly acknowledge her criticism, he responded by staging an elaborate stunt wherein he traveled to San Francisco to attend a VIP meet-and-greet event with Mongeau, during which he approached the celebrity vlogger for a photograph and blurted out "say ni**er!" (shown below, left). iDubbbz was promptly kicked out of the event. The prank was also recorded on camera by his girlfriend and fellow vlogger Raihnbowkidz), which was eventually posted to iDubbbz's secondary channel in early February (shown below, right).^[9][10]

On January 24th, 2017, Mongeau, unaware of the identity of the prankster, recounted her unpleasant encounter with a mysterious intruder at her event in a video titled "The N Word" (shown below). Within 24 hours, the video racked up more than 1.2 million views. Meanwhile, some of her fans began sleuthing online in order to identify the agent provocateur, which ultimately resulted in the exposure of iDubbbz's involvement.

However, the tide of the feud took an unexpected and drastic turn later that same day, when a video clip of Mongeau aggressively yelling the phrase "you fucking ni**er" surfaced on YouTube. The video has since been removed. On January 26th, YouTube personality Philip DeFranco uploaded a video to share his thoughts on the controversy (shown below, right). On January 27th, Redditor Filterg submitted a post chronicling several times Mongeau had used the slur in the past to /r/idubbbz.^[3]

On February 6th, iDubbbz released a new Content Cop episode criticizing Mongeau's video for exaggerating their encounter in San Francisco, as well as her use of the same racial slur in the past (shown below, left). Within 24 hours, the video gained over 3.5 million views and 158,000 comments. The same day, Redditor AsianWithGlasses submitted the Content Cop video to /r/videos,^[4] where it gained over 174,000 votes (66% upvoted) and 7,100 comments within 24 hours.

In response to the revelations about her own past, Mongeau tweeted that she had "made a lot of mistakes" and "an apology will be coming soon" (shown below).
