Kim Yo-jong is a North Korean politician and the younger sister of the current supreme leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-un. Following the reports of Jong-un's potentially failing health in April 2020, it was speculated that if he were to pass away, Yo-jong could become his potential successor as the supreme leader. In late April 2020, Kim Yo-jong became a popular subject of fan arts, memes and hornyposting online.
History
Kim Yo-jong was born on September 26th, 1987, in the family of the second leader of North Korea Kim Jong-il and is the youngest of his five children.[1] Between 1996 and 2000 she and her elder brother, the current supreme leader of North Korea Kim Jong-un, studied in Switzerland.
Kim's first public appearance was during a photo session for the participants of the 3rd Conference of the WPK in September 2010.[2] In October 2014, she reportedly temporarily took over state duties while her brother Kim Jong-un underwent medical treatment.[3] In November that year, she assumed her current office of the First Deputy Director of the Propaganda and Agitation Department of North Korea.
One of Kim's first major appearances was at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. making her the first member of the Kim family to set foot in the country since the Korean War.[4]
Supreme Leader Prospects
On April 20th, 2020, CNN[5] reported that Kim Jong-un was allegedly in "grave danger" after receiving a cardiovascular surgery on April 12th. In the following weeks, multiple news sources reported rumors that Kim Jong-un could either be dead or in a vegetative state.
Starting on April 21st, 2020, multiple news sources[6][7][8] speculated that in the event of Kim Jong-un's death or inability to maintain his office, Kim Yo-jong could potentially become the next leader of the country.
Related Memes
The spread of the speculations that Kim Yo-jong could potentially succeed Kim Jong-un as the supreme leader of North Korea brought mainstream attention to Kim. Kim Yo-jong's popularity in memes and fanart was prompted by her perceived attractiveness combined with her position as a leader, similar to the online popularity of the former chief prosecutor of the Republic of Crimea Natalia Poklonskaya, with some memes comparing the two women.
On November 18th, 2017, artist Shädman posted first two viral fanarts of Kim Yo-jong,[12][13] gaining over 1,400 retweets and 11,000 likes and 580 retweets and 5,200 likes, respectively (shown below, left and right).
On March 21st, 2020, Twitter[9] user @BasedTradWeeb made the earliest known hornypost expressing attraction towards Kim Yo-jong and describing her as a "smug imouto dictator" (shown below, top left). In the following days, screenshots of the post received viral spread on Telegram,[10] Facebook[11] and other platforms, prompting popularity of Kim Jong-un in memes, hornyposting and fanart online (examples shown below).
