Krystal is a recurring character from the Star Fox series, and was first introduced in the unreleased video game Dinosaur Planet from Rare, which turned into Star Fox Adventures. The character has been a favorite for fan artists, as well as being ported as a playable character in various video game mods.

Origin

Krystal was first introduced as a playable character in the cancelled Nintendo 64 game Dinosaur Planet in 1999-2000.^[1] Krystal made her first official appearance in the GameCube title Star Fox Adventures, which was released on September 23rd, 2002, in North America.^[2] She would also appear in the Star Fox games Star Fox Assault for GameCube, and Star Fox Command for Nintendo DS.

Spread

In the decades following her appearance, Krystal became a popular character for fan artists, particularly furry fan artists. On DeviantArt,^[3] there are over 75,000 pieces under the "Krystal" tag. She also has a page on Wikifur.^[4] She also has a page on TV Tropes,^[5] where it is noted that Krystal was received more favorably in the West than she was in Japan.

Video Game Mods

Half-Life 2 modder Gagnetar has created a modded version of the game that replaces Alyx Vance with Krystal. In April of 2022, Krystal's original voice actress, Estelle Ellis, stepped in to add her voice to the character for the mod.^[6]
