About
Long Boi is the nickname given to an exceptionally large duck that is 1m (3.5 ft) tall and lives on the University of York campus in England. After being posted to social media, the duck inspired jokes and awe online.
Origin
On April 28th, 2021, Redditor GreyMachii posted a picture of "the tallest mallard duck to ever live" to /r/interestingasfuck,[1] gaining over 32,000 points (shown below). The duck stands at 1m tall and lives on the University of York campus in England.
Spread
On April 29th, 2021, Twitter user @dickkingsmith[2] reposted the picture of the duck, gaining over 14,000 retweets and 79,000 likes (shown below, left). In the tweet, he mentioned the duck is known as "Long Boi." This caused "Long Boi" to trend on Twitter[3] that day as people shared their awe and jokes about the tall duck. Popular tweets about the duck include a post by @roblee4,[4] who compared the duck to the painting "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte," gaining over 600 retweets and 4,000 likes (shown below, right).
