On January 2nd, 2025, Tumblr^[1] user mysterypuppy posted a GIF of the solar system, writing, "Let's orbit around mama," garnering over 19,600 notes in four months. This is considered the original mamaposting meme.

Spread

The meme garnered viral spread across Tumblr over the following weeks, largely under the hashtag "#mamaposting." The meme saw users post cute images of baby animals with their parents alongside a caption describing the photo.

For example, on January 31st, 2025, Tumblr^[2] user achillesinhighheels posted a photograph of a mother lion with her baby. The lighting of the photo makes it appear as if the mother lion is glowing.

On February 7th, Tumblr^[3] user crazysodomite posted an image of a baby beluga whale with its parent, writing, "let's glow serenely with mama," garnering over 26,000 notes in three months.

On April 22nd, Tumblr^[8] user pleasuretrade made a text post about mamaposting that garnered over 24,000 notes in two weeks, reading:

On April 30th, another compilation was posted to the /r/CuratedTumblr^[10] subreddit, garnering over 1,800 upvotes in a week.
