About
Nancy Pelosi Clapping refers to a moment in the 2019 State of the Union Address where Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi appeared to offer a sarcastic round of applause to Donald Trump after the President said called on Americans to "reject the politics of revenge, resistance, and retribution, and embrace the boundless potential of cooperation, compromise, and the common good." Weeks prior, Pelosi and Trump had famously squared off during the 2018-2019 United States Government Shutdown, leading some to believe that Pelosi's applause was in sarcastic praise of the phrase.
Origin
During the 2019 State of the Union Address, Donald Trump called on Americans to "reject the politics of revenge, resistance, and retribution, and embrace the boundless potential of cooperation, compromise, and the common good." The line caused some members of congress to cheer. Nancy Pelosi, sitting behind Trump, appeared to applaud for the line sarcastically with slow and deliberate claps. Twitter user @bkurbs posted the clip of the moment to Twitter (shown below).
