About

H.O.D. Gaming is an Australian YouTuber best known for producing videos on ARK: Survival Evolved and other sandbox games. In March of 2019, the developers of ARK banned him from playing the game for using his platform to expose bugs and glitches in the game.

History

H.O.D. Gaming joined YouTube on January 14th, 2015.[1] The first video on his account was posted on June 1st, 2016 (shown below, left). To date, his most popular video is a guide on getting started in ARK Survival Evolved, gaining over 1.2 million views (shown below, right). He is also on Twitch[2] and Twitter.[3]

ARK Ban

On March 26th, 2019, H.O.D. Gaming posted a video in which he exposed a glitch in the game called Meshing, which has been present in the game since its release, wherein a player can use a glitch in PVP servers to get into a player's base without having to get through their defenses and destroy it, thus ruining potentially thousands of hours of work in minutes. In response, _ARK_'s developers, Studio Wildcard, banned H.O.D. Gaming from the game, thus inspiring a second video from him about the ban (shown below, right).

H.O.D. was far from the only player to make videos complaining about the "meshing" bug. Other players to make such videos include Nerd Parade and GTJack3d (shown below).

In response to H.O.D. getting banned, other YouTubers Vindactur and The Apex Way posted videos criticizing Studio Wildcard's decision to enforce the ban (shown below).

A thread about the drama posted March 27th to /r/pcgaming gained over 33,000 points.[4] The game underwent intense review-bombing on Steam after the ban as well.[5]
