Jack Posobiec is a right wing activist, conspiracy theorist, media personality and provocateur, who is often associated with or accused of being in the alt-right community.
Online History
Rape Melania
On November 12th, 2016, Twitter [6] @RealJack tweeted a photograph of a protest outside of the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. holding a sign that read "Rape Melania."[6] The captioned the photo "Protesters holding up a "RAPE MELANIA" sign. Oh they're just so tolerant… #MakeAmericaGreatAgain" The post (shown below) receive more than 490 retweets and 480 likes in 14 months. Shortly after the picture was posted to the internet, it began trending on Twitter with more than 15,000 tweets.[7]
On January 11th, 2017, BuzzFeed [8] reported that the person holding the sign was Jack Posobiec. They write, "as shown by a series of Posobiec's text messages obtained by BuzzFeed News [shown below] and confirmed by a source who collaborated with Posobiec, the sign was the culmination of a disinformation campaign by Posobiec and others intended to paint the anti-Trump rallies as violent and out of control."
#DumpStarWars
Anti-Star Wars sentiments had been spreading since Rogue One screenwriter Chris Weitz tweeted a few days after the 2016 United States Presidential Election that Star Wars was against hate and pointed out that the villainous Empire is a white supremacist organization.[3] This angered white supremacists, who had threatened to boycott the film.[4] The rumors of the boycott and the hashtag "#DumpStarWars" began to spread when Trump supporter Jack Posobiec[5] tweeted the hashtag along with an unsubstantiated claim that Star Wars writers had rewritten and reshot the film to include scenes that called Trump a racist.
Doxing of Roy Moore Accuser
On November 10th, alt-right media personality Jack Posobiec was reported to Twitter for reportedly doxxing Judge Roy Moore's sexual misconduct accuser. Twitter[2] user @KrangTNelson posted a series of screenshots of the series of events, including Posobiec's original tweet, the deleted tweet, Posobiec accusing another outlet of doxing and blocking @KrangTNelson. Within 10 minutes, the tweet (shown below) received more than 245 retweets and 960 likes.
Game of Thrones-Donald Trump Fan Fiction
On May 17th, 2017, Vice [22] published an article that detailed Posobiec-penned Game of Thrones fan fiction on his blog "Angry Game of Thrones Fan," which was founded in 2012. According to the article, the fan fiction, at its peak, had a readership of about 10,000. Posobiec told Vice that he wrote "satirical fan fiction in the vein of Mr. Plinkett, a fictitious film critic character that hosts movie reviews.
While this was mostly general Game of Thrones fan fiction, on October 15th, 2015, he published "The Lady and The Trump,"[23] a fan fiction depicting a relationship between the character Sansa Stark and then-presidential candidate Donald Trump.
On November 15th, 2018, Twitter[24] user @UrbanAchievr tweeted a screenshot of the article. They captioned the post, "today I learned that alt-right pizzagater Jack Posobiec wrote Game of Thrones fan fiction about Donald Trump and a teen aged Sansa Stark falling in love." The post received more than 370 retweets and 1,000 likes in 24 hours (shown below, left).
That day, more reporters and Twitter users continued to share the documents and screenshots of the fan fiction (shown below, center and right).
Reputation
Relationship to the Alt-Right
Posobiec has been referred to as an alt-right activist, white nationalist and conspiracy theorist.[17]
On August 25th, 2016, Posobiec tweeted[18] a photoshopped of various figures of the Trump administration dropping "truth bombs" on media organization. The picture (shown below, left) was captioned "#AltRightMeans."
The following year, on June 18th, 2017, alt-right leader and white nationalist Richard Spencer tweeted a picture of the two of them in Cleveland. He captioned the tweet[19] "Here's a photo of @JackPosobiec and me in Cleveland, at a bar during the RNC." The post (shown below, right) received more than 270 retweets and 560 likes in less than one year.
On August 16th, 2017, HuffPost[20] published an article called "Pro-Trump Bloggers Are Trying To Disown The Alt-Right Brand After Charlottesville." The article describes how many involved with the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virgina attempted to distance themselves in the wake of the death of Heather Heyer at the event. In the article, Posobiec's tweets are referenced, including one where he calls the alt right cancer (shown below).[21]
Involvement in Conspiracy Theories
Among other unsubstantiated claims he has promoted, he has been involved Seth Rich assassination conspiracy theory and Pizzagate.
According to the Washington Post,[9] on November 16th, 2016, Posobiec went to Comet Ping Pong Pizza, where he attempted to broadcast his visit on Periscope. After the manager caught Posobiec with his camera in hand attempting to enter a back room where child's birthday part was taking place, he was told to leave without paying.
Personal Life
Jack Posobiec was born in 1985 in Pennsylvania. He went to college at Temple University and served in the Naval Reserves. However, as of August 2017, his clearance was suspended and under review.[16]
Wedding
On November 4th, alt-right Twitter[1] personality Jack Posobiec continued the association between Papa John's and the alt-right by serving the pizza at his wedding rehearsal dinner. He tweeted a picture of Papa John's pizza with the caption "Rehearsal dinner with Papa Johns!" The tweet (shown below) received more than 420 retweets and 2,600 likes.
Online, people mocked Posobiec for having fast-food pizza at his wedding rehearsal dinner as a means of "owning libs."
Bumble Account
On January 24th, 2018, Twitter[10] user @deborahlindsey tweeted screenshots of an alleged Bumble dating app account owned by Posobiec. She added the caption "is @bumble_app still a feminist dating app or the place where white nationalists / nazis go to cheat on their wives?" The post (shown below) received more than 1,100 retweets and 4,440 likes in 24 hours.
Later that day, @deborahlinseyl tweeted several correspondence with Bumble's customer support service. In the messages (shown below), Bumble says that they would pass along her complaints to the moderator team at Bumble.[11][12]
Later that day, Gizmodo[13] reported that Posobiec claimed the profile was "clearly some troll" and that he has "a hot eastern European wife, as everyone knows."
According to BuzzFeed,[14] a Bumble representative confirmed the account in question was tied to Posobiec's real Facebook account, but that the Bumble account has been inactive since 2016.
That day, Posobiec tweeted that he would be launching an FBI investigation into the "fraudulent account." He wrote,[15] "I am filing an identify theft report with the FBI over fraudulent accounts made of me online. The criminals behind this will not get away with it, they will be found, and they will be brought to swift, exacting justice. This criminal fraud stops now." The post (shown below) received more than 2,400 retweets, 6,900 likes and 2,400 comments.
