About

"Pose ton Macron" ("drop your Macron"), also known as "Macron doing things" in some European countries is a photoshop meme based on a picture of French president Emmanuel Macron cheering during the final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, that took place on July 15th, 2018.

Origin

On July 15th, 2018, French President Emmanuel Macron attended the final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, that featured the national Football teams of France and Croatia at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. During the match, after the French national team scored its first goal, photographer Alexey Nikolsky from the Sputnik agency took a picture of Macron standing up and cheering with raised arms and clenched fists (shown below). The picture was subsequently used by the AFP news agency on their site[1] and official Twitter account, and gathered over 580 retweets and 1.6k likes in 24 hours.

Spread

Following the end of the match and France's victory, several French and international news sites reused Macron's photograph, such as Le Monde,[3] Franceinfo,[4] Die Welt,[5] and La Repubblica. [6] On July 16th, Twitter account @topitocom posted a greenscreen template version of Macron's picture (shown below), inviting their followers to post their variations under the hashtag #posetonmacron. In 10 hours, the tweet gained 448 likes and 67 replies.[7]

On the same evening, a thread about the picture was posted to the /r/photoshopbattles subreddit and gained over 75k points[8]. The top two post featured Macron as french Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, and fighting a creature from the Lord of the Rings franchise (shown below).

By the end of the day, the hashtag #posetonmacron gained over 11.2k related tweets and reached the top of the Twitter trends for France.[13] The popularity outbreak of the parodies was subsequently documented by various French news sites, such as LCI,[9] Europe 1,[10] Les Inrockuptibles,[11] and the french version of the _Huffington Post.[12]

Not sure if i had to upload it in the "SSB character announcement parodies" gallery, or in the "2018 world cup" gallery, since we don't have a proper Macron entry (yet).
