About

Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons, also known as The Big Four, is the name given to the crossover of the four animated CGI movies Rise of the Guardians (2012), Brave (2012), Tangled (2010) and How to Train your Dragon (2010), and their main characters Jack Frost, Merida DunBroch, Rapunzel Corona, and Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III. The crossover include alternate universes and shipping between the main characters.

Origin

The percursors of the crossover can be found with various pairings of each of the characters. On July 4th, 2012 a group named "Merida x Rapunzel" was created on the online artist community DeviantART, [3] and on September 8, 2012 user Redhead-K submitted the first of a series of comics pairing Merida and Hicupp.[5] On September 28th, 2012 youtuber AnimeFanGirl92 uploaded a video called "Merida in Wonderland", which feature supercuts from Rise of the Guardians, Brave, How to Train your Dragon and The Lorax. On October 16th, 2012 youtuber Moloko Cartoons uploaded another supercut video, this time featuring Tangled instead of The Lorax (shown bellow, right).

Spread

On January 22nd, 2013 a DeviantART group called "The Big Four" was created,[1] name that would later be given to the grouping of the characters. On February 27th, 2013 youtuber Crystal .Erin uploaded a video titled "The Big Four – The Movie", featuring again supercuts from the movies in a trailer-styled video. As March 31st, the video gained over 390,000 views.

On September 29th, 2013, a wikia was created.[4] It currently has 600 pages documenting the shipping, fanfictions, and alternate universes that spawned from the super fandom amongst other more canonical articles. As of March 31st, DeviantART has over 2,700 submissions submitted under the keywords “rise of the brave tangled dragons”[6] and over 67,000 submissions submitted under the keywords “The Big Four”.[7] Microblogging website Tumblr also has submissions under the keywords “rise of the brave tangled dragons”[2] and “the big four”.[8] Occasionally, the hit animated movie Frozen started being added into the the big four crossover to make the five-way crossover fandom aptly called Rise of the Brave Frozen Tangled Dragons.
