Samus Aran As A Hamster, more commonly known as Hamus, is a fan art trend in which artists draw Metroid protagonist Samus Aran as a hamster. The trend started on Twitter / X in late June 2024. It is comparable to the March 2023 Moushley art trend, which had artists draw Ashley Graham from Resident Evil 4 Remake as a mouse.

Origin

On June 27th, 2024, X^[1] artist @CrisppyBoat posted a piece of art depicting Samus Aran in her Zero Suit as a hamster, captioned, "Metroid but Samus is a hamster and is named Hamus and that's the only difference." The post gained over 10,000 likes and 2,100 reposts in one week (shown below).

Spread

The trend began to spread that day. On June 27th, 2024, X^[2] artist @WayOfTheQuay posted a GIF of a 3D modelled Hamus with pixel texturing, garnering over 1,000 likes in one week (shown below).

On June 30th, X^[3] artist @MorriartySwitch posted fan art of Hamus running inside a morph ball as if it were a hamster ball, garnering over 40,000 likes and 7,300 reposts in three days (shown below, left). The following day, on July 1st, the same X^[4] artist posted another piece of fan art which shows Hamus standing entirely inside of the helmet of a power suit, garneirng over 15,000 likes and 2,300 reposts in two days (shown below, right).

On July 2nd, X^[5] artist @fluffy_wolfe posted "crossover": https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/crossover fan art that features both Hamus and Moushley, earning over 2,700 likes and 700 reposts in one day (shown below).
