About

Kasane Teto is a virtual singer character associated with the UTAU singing synthesizer software. Created in 2008 as part of an April Fools’ joke parodying a new Vocaloid release, the character quickly gained popularity within online music and anime communities.

Although initially developed as a UTAU voicebank, Teto was later officially released for the Synthesizer V AI engine in 2023, leading to a renewed wave of fan-created music videos and online content featuring the character.

History

Per the UTAU Wiki,[1] the surname “Kasane” (重音) can be translated as either “heavy sound” or “overlapping sound.” The given name “Teto” (テト) is derived from “Tetopettenson,” a parody song based on Le Beau Tambour.

Teto is recognizable for her distinctive drill-shaped twin tails and ahoge, as well as her dark pink hair and eyes. She was originally introduced online under the parody company name “Crvipton” as a fake fourth Character Vocal Series release following Hatsune Miku and Kagamine Rin and Len.

Teto made her debut on April 1st, 2008, on the message board 2ch. After the April Fools’ prank gained unexpected popularity, the character continued to attract a large fan following and was later adapted into a UTAU voicebank.[1] The earliest video of Teto singing was posted to nicovideo by user[2] tattoo2003 on April 6th, 2008.

A reupload of the full version of the video was uploaded to YouTube[2] by user @MoonBlackSky on January 18th, 2012. The video has received over 11 million views as of May 2026.

Fukkireta-

Fukkireta- (Japanese: 吹っ切れた) refers to a series of hand-drawn animated videos of characters either swaying their hips to or bobbing their heads while singing a denpa-inspired song. A massive amount of parody and remix videos were produced by users of Nico Nico Douga after the initial animations were uploaded to the site in May of 2010, becoming an immediate sensation on the video-sharing site during the Summer of that year.

The dance parody series was originally sparked by two animated videos created by animator and Vocaloid producer Lamaze-P (ラマーズP), the first being shared to Niconico on May 10th, 2010. The animation features the character known as "8toushin", an offspring of the Mona Shift-JIS art family, suggestively swinging its hips to an instrumental version of "Ochame Kinou" (おちゃめ機能, lit. Mischievous Function), an original song created by Lamaze-P under his pseudonym Gojimaji-P (ゴジマジP). The video's title, "Fukkireta", is the past simple & present perfect simple tense of "Fukkiru" (吹っ切れる).

On November 8th, 2024, YouTube[5] user 柊マグネタイト (Hiiragi Magnetite) uploaded a music video titled "テトリス / 重音テトSV". The song uses SynthV of Kasane Teto, and music reference from the game Tetris. The video received more than 33 million views in three months.

Pearto

Fans began posting "Pearto" fan art and memes to sites like Twitter X, YouTube and Instagram in late 2024 and early 2025.
