Screaming Blue Thing refers to a series of videos where a scream is added to videos of a small blue puppet from the PUPPET SUNSUN YouTube channel. The original scream edit, using a clip where the puppet is seen in a pile of marshmallows, was posted to YouTube in October 2021 and went viral in May 2022, inspiring variations using other clips of the puppet as an exploitable.

Origin

On October 12th, 2021, YouTuber^[1] Bol posted a video where the camera zooms into a blue puppet from the PUPPET SUNSUN YouTube channel as the puppet opens its mouth and then screams (shown below). The scream is taken from the viral video "Mrs. Obama Get Down."^[2] The edit gained over 8.9 million views in seven months.

The original, unedited clip was posted by YouTuber^[3] PUPPET SUNSUN on May 15th, 2021 (shown below). The video is likely a reupload or was uploaded elsewhere before YouTube as the date proceeds the edit.

Spread

The video went viral in May 2022, inspiring variations. On May 10th, YouTuber^[4] Stroh Bama posted an edit adding a scream to another clip of the puppet, gaining over 40,000 views in two weeks (shown below, left). On May 11th, YouTuber^[5] TZBCreative posted an animated version of the original meme, gaining over 28,800 views in two weeks (shown below, right).

On May 12th, YouTuber Boomer Boy posted a version of the meme using the Look A Birdie format, gaining over 31,900 views in two weeks (shown below). On May 23rd, YouTuber^[6] Lessons In Meme Culture posted a video about the meme.
