About

Selena Gomez Crying About Deportations is a viral video posted to American actress and singer Selena Gomez's Instagram Story in late January 2025 in which she cries about the deportation of Mexican people from the United States by ICE following new initiatives from President Donald Trump. Gomez posted the video on January 27th, 2025, and deleted it shortly after receiving criticism from some viewers (purportedly including many conservatives) who suggested her crying was performative. After deleting the video, Gomez posted to her Story, "Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people." The video of Gomez crying inspired memes and discourse online in the following days. The video of Gomez expressing sadness about deportations is not to be confused with the 2014 Selena Gomez Crying meme.

It's telling that you always have to go back to a singular (recent) example because it turns out violent crimes committed by illegals are pretty few and far between compared to the national average.

Also people can care about more than one thing at a time.

Also literal whataboutism, lmao.
