Nemu's Waifu Generator or Nemusona is an AI art generator hosted at waifus.nemusona.com that generates images of anime waifus, both male and female, using positive and negative prompts. The artificial intelligence site launched in January 2023 and became notably popularized online over the following months, including on 4chan, as people shared their creations.

History

On January 14th, 2023, Twitter^[1] user @nemusonaUwU, the creator of Nemu's Waifu Generator, posted the link to waifus.nemusona.com^[2] for the first known time, writing, "Make my 4090 do some work," garnering over 120 likes in two months. On January 15th, they tweeted^[3] that users, "Already generated 7 GB of waifus."

On January 17th, @nemusonaUwU tweeted^[4][5] stats for the site and an example of a waifu generated using the tool (shown below). On January 20th, the dev then announced the addition of a queue system to the site on Twitter.^[6]

Online Presence

Nemu's waifu generator became notably prominent on 4chan following its public release. On January 27th, 2023, an anonymous user of 4chan's /pol/^[7] board started a "Make Your (Political) Waifu" thread, linking to the site and receiving over 400 replies, many of which are lewd (examples shown below). Another thread was started on /pol/^[8] later that day, garnering over 390 replies in a month.
