About

Big Oof is a phrase uttered by Sonic the Hedgehog in an official Sonic the Hedgehog comic book. Upon previews of the cell being posted online in late July of 2022, the phrase inspired fan art and parodies, similar to the This is where I watched my parents die, Raphael strip.

Origin

In Issue #51 of the Sonic the Hedgehog comic, Sonic says the phrase in response to Belle the Tinkerer after she relays to him news of the death of the villain Dr. Starline. On July 27th, 2022, preview pages of the comic were posted online. Later that day, the term "Big Oof" was trending on Twitter,[1] coincidentally at the very same time the hashtag #SaveTheOOF, which was related to Roblox removing the original "Oof" sound from the game, was also trending.

I SAW IT MYSELF. DR. STARLINE IS... NO MORE. BIG OOF.

Spread

Fan art and video parodies related to the phrase began circulating shortly after the image was posted online. On July 28th, Twitter user @Lemon_Eyebrows[2] posted a tweet featuring a comic they made where Silver the Hedgehog goes back in time to stop Sonic from saying the phrase (shown below). The tweet gained over 21,000 likes in three weeks.

On August 2nd, Animator MugiMikey posted a video where Sonic says "Big Oof" to Tails' supposed death. The video gained over 34,000 views on YouTube in three weeks (shown below).

On August 7th, Twitter user @FangTheWerehog posted a video of Sonic the Hedgehog's current voice actor, Roger Craig Smith, "saying the phrase":after being prompted by them at a fan convention. The tweet (shown below) received over 100,000 views and 8,000 likes in two weeks.

Dr. Starline was a piece of shit, he's the reason Eggman returned to being as dangerous as he is, helped with the metavirus, tortured Belle, fucked up with the minds of Surge and Kit.
Sonic's reaction to hearing him die makes sense, he's not going to be sad, if anything be thankful he and tails didn't started singing this lol
