Overview

Among Us VR is an upcoming virtual reality video game in the Among Us series. Among Us VR is a standalone game and features the same gameplay as its predecessor but is played in the first person with a VR set, such as the Oculus. It was announced in December 2021 at the Game Awards. A release date has not been set.

On December 9th, 2021, the trailer for Among Us VR premiered at the 2021 Game Awards. It was uploaded to YouTube^[1] by IGN that day, gaining over 188,000 views in under 24 hours. The trailer shows a POV of a player on a 3D version of the game's "The Skeld" map. The player performs a task by inputting numbers on a pad when they suddenly spin around and are attacked by a red impostor. The screen goes black and the game's buzzer sound plays (shown below). The game will be available on the Oculus Store.^[5]

The trailer was reacted to across the web following its announcement at the Game Awards. On December 9th, the xQc Clips YouTube^[2] channel uploaded a clip of xQc reacting to it during his live stream of the event on Twitch, gaining over 38,500 views in under a day (shown below).

The game and its trailer quickly inspired memes as well as reactions, fuelled by the game's pre-established ironic meme culture. For example, on the day the game was announced, Twitter^[4] user @_notrose posted "obligatory among us vr shitpost" with an edit of the trailer that cuts to the You're Finally Awake scene from Skyrim gaining over 410 likes in a day (shown below).

On December 10th, streamer Rhelaza posted a video of themself to Twitter^[3] getting scared when the impostor shows up in the trailer, gaining over 140 likes in under a day (shown below).
