OneShot, or OneShot: World Machine Edition is an indie puzzle adventure RPG-Maker video game developed by NightMargin, Eliza Velasquez, and published by DANGEN.
The game focuses on you playing as God that guides Niko to save the world and return Niko home. It was originally made for a game jam in 2014, and was remade in 2016 published on Steam with new content and later on, expanded with the Solstice Update.
NightMargin and Eliza Velasquez made the original game in a month for the 2014 Indie Game Maker Contest. The remake was done by the original team with the addition of GIRakaCheezer in 2016 in RPG Maker XP, and published by Degica. On September 22, 2022, the game was released on consoles under the name of OneShot: World Machine Edition on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
The original version of the game has been tagged a “Featured Game” in rpgmaker.net and has been downloaded 54,000+ times. Also currently has a 10/10 rating and 23,000+ reviews on Steam, with a percentage of 98% of the user reviews for the game positive. Additionally, it currently has a score of 80 on Metacritic and a User Score of 8.8. OneShot was also a nominee in the PC category of 2017’s Golden Joystick Awards.
Due to Niko expressing their liking of pancakes during the game, a sizeable amount of fanart features Niko enjoying portions of pancakes or jokes related to them.
Nightmargin made a joke about Niko enjoying arson and drawing some pics of Niko with Molotovs, people started to also make fanart and jokes about it.
Due to the unusual relationship between player and the main character, Niko, they have been more heavily featured as the main focus of fanart than many other main characters in games.
