About

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a spin-off from the Batman: Arkham series, both developed by Rocksteady Studios. The game follows DC Comics Suicide Squad after they are assembled by Amanda Waller to stop an alien invader named Brainiac after he brainwashes the members of the Justice League. Initial reviews for the game were mixed, given technical glitches upon the game's early release that skipped players right to the game's ending.

History

Rocksteady Studios announced Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in August 2020, with the first trailer for the game premiering that same month at DC FanDome. A YouTube[1] upload of the trailer gathered over 10 million views in three years (seen below).

The game features actor Kevin Conroy's reprising his role as Batman for the last time following his death in November 2022. After initial delays that pushed the game's release from 2023 to 2024[2] the game's early release Deluxe Edition was announced for January 29th, 2024. However, the game was pulled soon after its release in New Zealand due to a glitch that caused players to skip the gameplay and immediately complete the game.[3] A statement posted to X[4] by Rocksteady Studios addressing the issue can be seen below.

SUICIDE AD Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League rs @suicidesquad RS We're aware that a number of players are currently experiencing an issue whereby upon logging into the game for the first time, they have full story completion. To resolve this issue, we will be performing maintenance on the game servers. During this time the game will be unavailable. We expect this to take several hours and will update once we have more information. We apologise for the inconvenience. 7:01 AM Jan 29, 2024 1.1M Views • !

Reception

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League did not release early review codes to allow video game critics or bloggers to review the game in depth prior to its release, a decision Forbes[5] deemed as "unusual" for a AAA game release. Game journalist and X[6] user Parris @vicious696 speculated that the decision to withhold early reviews may have been a result of concerns over the game's reception.

Online Presence

Various fans expressed concern about the lack of early reviews, the lack of offline gameplay, and the initial glitch in the game's release. X users @GreatCheshire[7] and @BeanWalrus[8] made posts addressing these concerns and gathering over 20,000 and 3,000 likes respectively (seen below).

Daniel Galleghost @BeanWalrus I feel like suicide squad is going to force a lot of people to realize that a studio's name means very little. This rocksteady isn't the rocksteady that made the arkham games, because all the people who made them left. This is a company that happens to have access to the same IP Lady Emily @GreatCheshire • Jan 29 Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League not sending out review codes and then launching early for people who paid $100+ to preorder only for the servers to immediately be taken down because of a massive bug that auto-completed the game for you on start up is, uh, y'know, good sign 1:08 PM Jan 29, 2024 130.1K Views

Redditors on /r/BatmanArkham, a subreddit dedicated to the original Arkham games the Suicide Squad game takes place in, expressed their reactions to the game's release as well, with /u/trophy_Hunter69420[9] asking "Is there a lore reason why this game is fucking awful," while /u/charlesleecartman posted a meme[10] that gathered over 1,000 upvotes in a day (seen below).

Many fans also began posting spoilers, including a cutscene showing Batman's death. Some fans of the original Arkham games found Batman's death to be in bad taste, considering that the game was Kevin Conroy's last time reprising his voice-acting role as the superhero. X[11] user @brndxix quoted a clip of the scene saying, "they executed my goat isis style this is not the same batman i got 200 riddler trophies with 💔💔💔," gathering over 50,000 likes in a day (seen below, left).

Other fans such as @Smiles78880476[12] defended Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and its plotline, saying that one can expect members of the Justice League to die given the name of the game (seen below, right).

Upper Echelon has a video on this, actually.

Basically, Sweet Baby is endemic of a much larger problem with something called "ESG ratings", where 2 of the largest investment firms (Vanguard and Blackrock) have 22% of their funds locked behind a list that reads of the "Great Big Book of Stereotypes" for the purposes of "forcing behavior" according to Black Rock CEO. The better your "Environmental Social Governance" score the more likely you can actually get these funds.

So how do you increase this score? You basically hire these shady consultation firms that go in and tear the whole thing up for the sake of "diversity". Sweet Baby is the current industry darling for this and if you'd look at their body of work it's almost entirely flops and subpar products. If you're wondering where the industry gets the same 3-4 bad writers for all their products, this is it. How much they actually work on the main product is hard to say, but if they're given "HR priority" it's safe to say that they have the last word on anything they work on.

It's funny because Occupy was the catalyst for all these subversive sort of organizations, it showed how easy a movement can be hijacked for corporate gain if you just say the right things and accuse others of not being as "inclusive" as you. All this culture war stuff comes back to how the "rebellion" is more of an industry than ever before.
