Shocked Captain Boomerang is a viral Reaction Video featuring Captain Boomerang in the 2024 video game Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League. In the reaction, Captain Boomerang can be seen looking off screen, before doing a double take and having a wide mouthed shocked expression. In early 2024, this was used as a reaction with Captain Boomerang being edited into different other videos and context added through captions.

Origin

On January 30th, 2024, the Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League game was released. Near the end of the game, after defeating the Green Lantern, the character King Shark can be seen constructing a giant shark out of green lantern energy. After the shark begins to swim towards the characters, Captain Boomerang does the reaction, with the intent of it being for the audience. On January 30th, 2024, this sequence was uploaded to YouTube by the channel Dan Allen Gaming^[1] (shown below).

Spread

A day later, on January 31st, 2024, the scene was already being used in multiple memes across social media. On TikTok, the creators itsfalt^[2] and Lord__Megatron^[3] used the reaction unedited and unchanged from the scene, but added in captions to add context to it. This changed it from being about Captain Boomerang reacting to something into a POV meme about the person being Captain Boomerang in this instance, with itsfalt's TikTok getting over 450,000 likes in one month (shown below, left and right).

In the following days, the reaction started to be used independently of the scene, with Captain Boomerang being photoshopped into other backgrounds for additional context. On February 4th, 2024, the TikTokers Defcontrox^[4] and thatcloneboy^[5] uploaded their own TikToks in which Captain Boomerang was inserted into other locations, with Defcontrox earning 218,000 likes for making a 9/11 joke and thatcloneboy making a joke about the third chapter of Poppy Playtime which had released earlier that month (shown below, left and right).
