Wallace and Gromit is a British claymation series created Nick Park. Since 1989, the series, which features Wallace and his dog Gromit, has inspired several short films, a feature-length movie, spin-offs, video games and television adaptations.

History

A Grand Day Out (1989)

On November 4th, 1989, the short film A Grand Day Out, premiered at the BBC British Short Film Festival.^[1][2] The film went on to received an Academy Awary nomination for Best Animated Short Film, losing to another film by Nick Park, Creature Comforts.^[3]

This was the debut short film of the duo, where Wallace and Gromit take a holiday on the moon with their homemade rocket (clips below).

The Wrong Trousers (1993)

Wallace and Gromit's second short film, The Wrong Trousers, premiered in the United States on December 17th, 1993. This short is about a penguin who wants to use Wallace's new invention, the techno trousers, to steal a diamond kept in the highly guarded city museum. The film won an Academy Award for Best Short Film, Animated (clip below).^[4]

A Close Shave (1995)

A Close Shave, the third Wallace and Gromit short, premiered on December 29th, 1995 in the United States.^[5] The film follows the mysterious case of sheep-stealing that occurs while Wallace and Gromit are now window cleaners, marking the first appearance of Shawn the Sheep. At the 1996 Academy Awards, A Close Shave won Nick Park his second Oscar for Best Animated Short Film (clips below)

The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005)

Wallace and Gromit's first feature-length film The Curse of the Were-Rabbit premiered on October 7th, 2005 in the United States. The film features the duo competition in Tottington Hall's annual giant vegetable competition, where a Were-Rabbit is causing mischief and destroys the vegetables of the contestants. The film received in an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film (trailer below).^[6]

A Matter of Loaf and Death (2008)

On December 3rd, 2008, the fourth short premiered in Australia. The film sees the pair running a bakery and getting involved in a murder mystery (clip below). The film received one Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Short.^[7]

Shawn the Sheep

The Wallace and Gromit spin-off Shawn the Sheep has spawned 150 seven-minute episodes and one feature-length film. There have also been two short films based on the character.^[9]
