The earliest known usage of the still image featuring Tai Lung from the 2008 animated film Kung Fu Panda ^[1] was posted as a reply on Facebook^[2] by user @poxavictoremanuel.1023611, who shared the photoshopped image of the villain looking stunned at a computer screen (shown below). The post amassed roughly 4 likes in two years.

Over the next few months in 2022, the meme grew popular as a reaction image, being uploaded to X^[3] by the meme catalog page @reactjpg on September 28th, 2022. The image (shown below, left) was titled "Tai Lung Kung Fu Panda looking at computer screen exasperated confused shocked," amassing more than 335 likes and 43 retweets in two years. On September, 11th, 2022, X^[4] user @guilherme_tel3s used the meme to comment on a scene from the HBO show "House Of The Dragon"https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/subcultures/house-of-the-dragon that shocked him.
