Mmm Monkey is a memorable quote uttered by the character Oogway in the animated short film Kung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Furious Five, a spin-off of the film Kung Fu Panda. the scene has been used in a series of jokes, memes and remixes, placing the phrase and moment in different contexts.

Origin

On November 9th, 2008, Dreamworks released the Kung Fu Panda spin-off Secrets of the Furious Five on home video and DVD.[1] In the film, the character Oogway defeats Monkey (voiced by Randall Duk Kim and Jaycee Chan, respectively). During the fight, Oogway rescues Monkey from a falling pole. When he realizes what happened, Monkey says, "You saved me. Why?" Oogway responds, "Mmm Monkey."

On January 4th, 2013, YouTuber Shareware Hunger posted the clip. The video received more than 2.5 million views in less than eight years (shown below).



On December 1st, 2019, iFunny [2] user Comedy_Knight posted the clip to iFunny. The post received more than 10,000 reactions and 300 comments in less than one year.

Months later, on February 18th, 2020, iFunny[3] user RetardlF717 shared the video. The post received more than 32,000 reactions and 490 comments in less than three months.

That day, TikTok julianshwa shared the video. The post received more than 187,000 likes and 1,900 comments (shown below, left).

Over the next few weeks, the meme sound continued to spread on TikTok. On March 9th, TikTok user mylegisbroken101 shared a variation. The post received more than 293,000 reactions and 835 comments in less than two months (shown below, center). The following day, TikTok user _starman posted a variation that received more than 485,000 reactions and 840 comments in less than two months (shown below, right).
