About
Target Dog Girl refers to a series of furry artwork depicting the Target dog mascot Bullseye as an anthropomorphic female dog in a red dress. In mid-July 2024, X / Twitter artist @jayrnski posted a piece of artwork depicting the character, inspiring an influx of fan art and memes surrounding them. Later that month, the artist made a post encouraging other artists to draw the character, resulting in further fan art spreading online.
Origin
On July 9th, 2024, X[1] artist @jayrnski posted a drawing of the Target mascot, a dog with a red target around its eye, depicted as an anthropomorphic female dog in a red dress. The post text reads, "Target Dog here to help! 🎯" It gained over 54,000 likes in six days (shown below).
On July 10th, 11th and 13th, the artist posted three more pieces of art to X[2][3][4] depicting the dog, garnering over 67,000 likes and 52,000 likes, respectively, in six days (shown below, left and right).
Spread
The character inspired further artwork and memes throughout mid-July 2024. On July 12th, 2024, X[5] user @bacony_f____art posted an edit of the dog in a motorized shopping cart driven by rapper Tyler, the Creator, garnering over 20,000 likes in four days (shown below, left). On July 13th, X[6] user @49ersrule07 posted artwork that gained over 3,600 likes in three days (shown below, right).
On July 14th, X[7] user @KoiSakana23 posted a comic featuring the dog that garnered over 3,100 likes in two days (shown below). In the comic, two characters go to Target and ask the dog if the store has glue and tilapia, the joke being that they didn't really need anything from Target, they just wanted to go and see the dog.
That same day, the original artist, @jayrnski, made a post on X[8] encouraging other artists to draw the character in their own style, garnering over 15,000 likes and 1,200 reposts in two days. The post resulted in numerous works of art. For example, on July 15th, X[9] user @spicyBeefu posted an animation in which they designed the dog as an Animal Crossing character, garnering over 40,000 likes in a day (shown below).
On July 15th, 2024, several examples of artwork depicting the character were posted to the subreddit /r/furry.[10][11]

Walmutt
On July 15th, 2024, X[12] artist @crispytyph posted a piece of artwork depicting a furry character named "Walmutt" meant as a similar representation of Walmart, garnering over 20,000 likes and 1,800 reposts in a day (shown below).
Similarly to the Target dog, the character became the subject of further art, including crossover artwork depicting her alongside the Target dog furry. For example, on July 16th, X[13][14] users @NemekiDo and @snow_amami posted pieces of art that gained over 70 and 100 likes, respectively, in under a day (shown below, left and right).
