On September 26th, 2022, TikToker[1] @scaloneta.swiftie posted a clip with images of Lionel Messi during every Taylor Swift album release. The video garnered 1.1 million views and 236,000 likes in four months.

After the release of Taylor Swift Midnights album on October 21st, 2022, Spanish and Portuguese-speaking TikTokers started to post videos using Taylor Swift's songs "The Great War" and "You're On Your Own, Kid." On November 26th, 2022 a Taylor-themed party happened in Argentina, with a special clip of Messi with a piece of music from the new album. The post, uploaded by TikTok[4] user @taylorfestt, received 285,300 views and 58,000 likes in one month.

The trend reached a peak in popularity during the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar, as Taylor Swift and football fans joined forces to create edit videos of various football teams' efforts to win the World Cup. For instance, on December 1st, 2022, TikToker[2] @redlouit posted a new edit using Swift's song "Karma" and clips of the Brazilian player Richarlison[3].
