This Does Not Mama the Mia, also known as This Does Not Mamma the Mia, Nintendo Memes for the Group Chat or Nintendo Memes That Will Make You the Coolest Friend in the Group Chat, refers to a video for Nintendo video game fans to help them become the "coolest friend" in their group chat by sending Nintendo-related memes. The first meme shown in the video featured Mario and an Impact font caption reading, "This does not mamma the mia." The video was labeled cringe by some internet users on YouTube and TikTok, who turned it into an exploitable video format and catchphrase used ironically. The memes peaked in April and May 2025, but the original video was posted by YouTuber EmSwizzle in 2023. "X Memes That Will Make You the Coolest Friend in the Group Chat" also became a phrasal template in the spring of 2025, which was used by other fandoms, who put their subculture in the "X" of the memetic format.

Origin

It's currently unknown who created the original This Does Not Mama the Mia meme. Its first known repost was shared in a January 2021 CC Forums^[1] thread by user Flamin_Cheetos. The meme shows Mario looking at his hands with Impact font captions (shown below).

The image was used in viral posts in the following years, such as by Tumblr^[2] user missamerican-pie on October 7th, 2022, who used it to joke about Chris Pratt Voicing Mario, gaining over 14,000 notes in three years.

Sometime in early 2023, YouTuber and TikToker EmSwizzle posted a video called "Nintendo Memes for the Group Chat," which has since been deleted from his channels.

One of the first reposts was from TikToker^[10] @fernorsomethin on June 17th, 2023, gaining over 10,300 likes in two years (shown below).

The video was first parodied on March 6th, 2023, by YouTuber^[4] fallguys2bert, whose video gained over 46,100 views in two years (shown below).

The video continued to amass parodies on YouTube in March 2023, evident in a video shared by YouTuber^[6] LordSqueebs on March 29th, 2023, who added Wega memes in place of EmSwizzle's choices, gaining over 34,000 views in two years (shown below).

On May 17th, YouTuber^[5] pkshyguy parodied the video by adding his own narration and memes for ironic purposes. Over two years, the video gained roughly 28,100 views (shown below).

On November 30th, 2023, Redditor Condemned_Visual reposted the abovementioned video to the /r/tomorrow^[7] subreddit, gaining over 500 upvotes in two years.

On April 24th, 2025, TikToker^[8] @your_average_wotw_fan reposted a cropped version of the original video, gaining over 56,400 likes in a month (shown below).

On May 7th, TikToker^[9] @rubsro_ posted a Druski Dancing meme, which humorously announced "New Slang Alert," and included a long abbreviation for This Does Not Mama the Mia (TDNMTM). The video also used the term Gurt. Over 13 days, the video gained roughly 116,800 likes (shown below).

On May 19th, 2025, TikToker^[3] @miseryyterraria shared a video which replaced Nintendo with Terraria in the catchphrase, to read, "Terraria Memes for the Group Chat." The video received roughly 33,700 likes in a day (shown below).
