Welcome >_< Take a Seat Wherever or Have a Seat Wherever refers to a series of image macros where anime girls are shown sitting in messy rooms and welcoming the viewer to sit wherever. The original meme was posted to iFunny in 2020 and inspired several variants over the following years replacing the character. It is similar to the Damn Bitch, You Live Like This? meme.

Origin

On September 1st, 2020, iFunny^[1] user GoodLyck posted an image macro showing Chiaki Nanami from Danganronpa 3 sitting on a bed in a messy room, captioned, "Welcome >_< take a seat wherever," garnering over 60 smiles in two years (shown below, left). The meme was reposted to Instagram^[2] page weebshoppu on September 4th, garnering over 540 likes in the same span of time. On that day, iFunny^[3] user Jewel posted a version of the meme replacing Chiaki with Futaba Sakura from Persona 5, garnering over 90 smiles in two years (shown below, right).

Spread

On July 30th, 2021, Redditor Plutonian_Dive posted a version of the meme to /r/evangelionmemes^[4] using Rei from Evangelion, garnering over 4,100 upvotes in a year (shown below). This became one of the most popular and reposted versions of the meme. For example, on August 3rd, Instagram^[5] user repostrandy posted the meme, garnering over 42,000 likes in a year.

On November 2nd, Facebook^[6] page OwO Shitposting posted a version of the meme using an image of Toriel from Undertale, garnering over 300 shares in nine months (shown below, left). On November 12th, a Redditor posted a Doge version of the meme to /r/dogelore,^[7] garnering over 6,700 upvotes in the same span of time (shown below, right).

On February 4th, 2022, Facebook^[8] page Alternative Disney posted a version of the meme using Bruno from Encanto, garnering over 1,800 reactions and 270 shares in six months (shown below). On August 31st, a user of /r/memetemplatesofficial^[9] requested a format for the meme, garnering over 50 upvotes in under a day.
