Well Boys, We Did It. Racism Is No More is a memorable quote from a fan-made parody of the Penguins of Madagascar television series. Online, people have used a screenshot of the penguins dancing and used the quote as a phrasal template to react to perceived superficial solutions to complex issues.
Origin
On October 16th, 2018, Instagram [1] user @nass_is_secretly_a_pikmin posted the first part of a parody of the Penguins of Madagascar entitled "Operation N-W.O.R.D." also known as "Skipper Stops Racism." The post received more than 18,000 likes and 197,000 views in less than one year (shown below, left).
The following week, on October 22nd, @nass_is_secretly_a_pikmin posted the final part of the video,[2] during which the penguins dance and say, "Well, boys, we did it. Racism is no more." The post received more than 21,000 likes and 211,000 views (shown below, right).
Spread
On November 10th, Redditor [3] jiffeee posted the script to the video in the /r/copypasta subreddit.
On November 12th, @nass_is_secretly_a_pikmin posted the full film on YouTube. The post received more than 151,000 views in less than one year (shown below).
On January 13th, 2019, Redditor[4] I_want_to_die720 posted a reaction image macro of the penguins dancing with the phrase as a subtitle. They captioned the post, "When you kill a meme format that has the n word in it." The post received more than 200 points (96% upvoted) in four months (shown below, left).
Three months later, Redditor[5] StanleySteamer2 posted a variation by Redditor slayingnieve. The post received more than 865 points (90% upvoted) in two months (shown below, center).
On May 18th, Redditor[6] dxz1gn posted an edited version of the image, replacing "racism" with "pollution." They captioned the image, "Major Companies when they ban plastic straws." The post received more than 9,200 points (98% upvoted) and 100 comments in less than two weeks (shown below, right).
On May 28th, Redditor[7] cosmobhoi posted a variation about terrorism. The post received more than 44,000 points (97% upvoted) and 200 comments in 24 hours (shown below).
