What Animal You Are refers to a series of Instagram account that features images of animals with objects edited on to them and captioned with a person's name in colorful word art styled fonts. Arising in July 2020, these accounts include @what_dog_you_are, @what_frog_you_are, @what_duck_you_are, and more.

Origin

The earliest available version of the meme comes from the account @what_dog_you_are, which features the earliest available post on July 5th, 2020. The post features a white dog with the name "Swetha" and a broken remote control.[1]

Three days later, the account @what_frog_you_are launched,[2] featuring photographs of frogs with names in a similar style to @what_dog_you_are. The first post, a frog with the name "Abby," which the account featured that day, received more than 3,000 likes in less than one week (shown below, left). The account grew quickly, garnering more than 119,000 followers in less than one week.

Other accounts appeared over the next week, including @what_duck_you_are,[3] @watllamaareyou,[4] @whathedghogareyou,[5] @what_donkey_you_are,[6] @whatslothyouare,[7] @whatfoodyouare,[8] @whatdogyouare[9] and more (examples below, center and right).
