The meme typically utilizes the decomposed design of the "withered" animatronic variants that appear in Five Nights at Freddy's 2, adopting the decayed aesthetic for characters or persons outside of the FNAF universe. "Withered" has also been adopted as a popular internet slang to describe the diminished state of someone or something.

Origin

The Prototype or "Withered" animatronics make their first appearance in the FNAF franchise's second installment, Five Nights at Freddy's 2. The Withered animatronics are notable for their grotesque design, in contrast to the original animatronics and "toy" variants they are featured alongside. FNAF Lore

Per the Five Nights At Freddys wiki,^[1] the Withered Animatronics are the original characters from the 1985 Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza location, left in severe disrepair after a failed retrofit attempt and ultimately replaced by newer models for the grand reopening depicted in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.

FNAF Fandom

Many Five Nights at Freddy’s fans hold the Withered animatronics in high regard, citing their improved design, horror appeal, and lore significance. The Withered animatronics, particularly Withered Bonnie and Chica, have become iconic within the community for their damaged appearance, with Withered original characters becoming popular within the fandom. An infamous example of this phenomenon, Withered John, became an early in-joke within the community.

The term "Withered" has since been appropriated as a popular slang term online, usually referring to the diminished or deteriorated physical and sometimes mental state of the person being described. For example, concerns regarding the appearance of looksmaxxing streamer Clavivular have led him to be dubbed "Withered Clavicular" or "Withered Clav." TikTok user^[3] @groovyrockerchick's thoughts on "Withered Clavicular," posted February 2nd, 2026, are shown below as reference. The video received 5.9 million views and 486,300 likes in less than three weeks, demonstrating the term's widespread use.

Spread

The popularity of the Withered designs resulted in an influx of characters or persons, either ironically or in earnest, being redesigned or presented as Withered versions of themselves. An early example of this trend can be seen with the Hood Cryptids / Withered YNs meme that emerged within Instagram's Hood Irony community in 2019 and later resurfaced in December 2024, when TikTok users shared edits under the name "Withered YNs" and "Five Nights at YNs." Withered Von

Dayvon Daquan Bennett, known professionally as King Von, was an American rapper from Chicago.^[5] Following his death on November 6th, 2020, the late musician became subject to various memes on the internet. One example, the King Von Anti-Piracy Screen meme of 2024, an extension of the Withered YNs trend, represents the first instances of "Withered Von," acting as an alternate name for the meme. On December 17th, 2024, TikTok user^[6] @durrr4nn posted a video reacting to the meme with the caption "withered von" and crying emojis. The video received 1.7 million views and 228,500 likes as of February 2026.

King Von is thus one of the first prominent examples of real-life figures being "Withered" by the internet. Another example, uploaded on September 17th, 2025, by user^[7] @gyuyagi, showcases the continuation of King Von's transformation into Withered Von by the collective internet. The video has received 209,500 views and 14,600 likes as of February 2026.

Withered Epstein

Convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein also became the subject of various memes, including those related to FNAF. On December 12th, 2025, user^[8] @pipi_was_here posted a video depicting Toy Epstein vs Withered Epstein, making him the next prominent example of a public figure being "Withered." The video received 782,400 views and 106,700 likes as of February 2026.

Withered Kirk

An extension of Kirkification,, recently deceased political commentator Charlie Kirk became another public figure who had been Withered by the internet, though Withered Kirk is mostly seen with other Withered figures, as explained in the next section.

Convergence

By Late 2025 into early 2026, King Von, Jeffrey Epstein and Charlie Kirk had been inexplicably grouped together by the internet, despite having no connection to each other during their lives, and with the primary trait tying these figures together being their untimely or otherwise controversial deaths. Additionally, despite being alive, Sean "Diddy" Combs is often included due to the similarity of his alleged crimes in relation to Epstein's. On December 26th, 2025, TikTok user^[9] @sahurllljr_memez_editz posted an AI-generated image depicting King Von, Charlie Kirk and Jeffrey Epstein in the fictional game "Five Nights at Kirky's." It has received 627,200 views and 54,700 likes in less than two months.

The trio, with the addition of Diddy, began increasingly appearing together within the context of Withered or FNAF-related memes. On January 4th, 2026, user^[10] @daffyxai posted a video depicting the aforementioned figures as FNAF animatronics. These designs would become the de facto versions used in further Withered memes regarding these specific figures. The video received 1.1 million views and 193,800 likes in just over a month.
