About

Dayvon Daquan Bennett, known professionally as King Von, was an American rapper from Chicago IL. Following his death on November 6th, 2020, the late musician became subject to various memes on the internet.

Since his passing, memes related to King Von have become increasingly absurd and divorced from the rapper himself (as well as his music), in a manner similar to other figures whose deaths became internet fodder, such as Harambe, Jeffrey Epstein and Charlie Kirk, the latter two often appearing alongside Von in various memes.

Online History

King Von was a popular rapper with a massive following and online presence. On December 11th, 2018, the official WorldStarHipHop YouTube[1] channel posted a music video for the song "Crazy Story," which received over 87 million views in about seven years. The song was a viral sensation, becoming a popular TikTok sound.



On February 21st, 2020, King Von[2] posted the music video for his song "Took Her To The O" to his official YouTube channel. The song and video exploded in popularity, quickly becoming viral. The music video has amassed over 412 million views in about six years.



Despite his passing, King Von's official[3] Instagram account has maintained around 3.5 million followers, in addition to consistent Spotify listeners.

Death

On November 6th, 2020, King Von passed away at age 26 following an altercation-turned-shooting in Atlanta, Georgia. The incident stemmed from a violent encounter between his crew and rapper Quando Rondo's crew. Posthumous albums compiled of previously unreleased work were released in 2022 and 2023.

Online Reaction

The rapper's untimely death triggered widespread reaction across the internet, with many in the hip-hop community taking to social media to mourn the rising artist. A video posted by YouTube[4] channel @allurbancentral on the day of the shooting showcases different rappers reacting to the news of Von's passing. The video has received over 2.4 million views in less than six years.



Video footage of the shooting began to circulate online, shocking many and fueling discussion.[5]
