About

You Got Me Monologuing is a line from Disney/Pixar's The Incredibles that later became a reference applied to fictional characters who carelessly talk at length instead of paying attention to their foe. Additionally, it has been taken out of context and used as a reaction image, particularly in the /r/IncrediblesMemes community.

Origin

The line comes from 2004's The Incredibles.[1] Towards the end of the film, the film's villain, Buddy "Syndrome" Pine, traps the hero, Mr. Incredible. He then begins explaining his motivations and plans, and as he does so, Mr. Incredible attempts to take the opportunity to attack Syndrome. Syndrome dodges and says, "You sly dog! You got me monologuing!" (shown below).

Spread

The quote saw occasional use paired with other characters in the following years. For example, a post on Funnyjunk [2] from June 20th, 2012, applied the phrase in an image macro of President Barack Obama (shown below, left). On June 2nd, 2014, Redditor TheMarcBrown applied the phrase to The Red Viper from Game of Thrones, referencing a dramatic scene from the show (shown below, right).

As the format grew popular in similar image macros, Text Blackout variations began appearing, particularly on /r/IncrediblesMemes. For example, a Text Blackout post from February 26th on the subreddit gained over 330 upvotes (shown below, right).
