You shouldn't be here. Neither should you. is a memorable scene from 2019 Marvel superhero film Avengers: Endgame. Online, a still image paired with the quotes has been used as a macro usually to express a coincidental meeting of two persons.

Origin

On April 26th, 2019, Marvel superhero film Avengers: Endgame premiered in the United States.^[1] In one scene, the character Hawkeye, portrayed by Jeremy Lee Renner, is seen in Japan, killing somebody. Another character, Black Widow, portrayed by Scarlett Ingrid Johansson, sees him during it. When Hawkeye notices her, he says "You shouldn't be here." and Black Widow responds with "Neither should you."

On June 29th, 2019, Redditor -Ali-/^[2] posted the first meme based on the scene on r/dankmemes, gaining more than 63.5k upvotes in a month (shown below).

Several hours later on the same day, Redditor ProfMemeMaker posted a template of the meme on r/dankmemesTemplates.^[3]

In the following days, more memes with this format were created on r/dankmemes and other subreddits.
