Several hundred people dying in a heat wave isn't 'alarmism'. You live in a place that has infrastructure and technology meant to mitigate heat, Britain does not. When you get visited by an ice storm like Texas did I'm sure you'll be in much the same situation on the opposite side of the spectrum.
The only way this can even remotely be considered a compromise is if they still get punished for their wanton, reckless, planet-destroying behaviour in the end. Which, to be fair, they probably won't.
"If you just continue to pick up after the bad actors, then maybe you can buy enough time to find a solution to their bad acting that doesn't involving punishing them for the consequences of their actions."
